Richmond, BC – Comedian, actor and producer Drew Carey first made a name for himself as a stand-up comedian after serving in the U.S. Marine Reserves. He was performing at the Cleveland Comedy Club in 1986 when two years later, he got his big break competing on the syndicated television show, Star Search. He then landed a spot on HBO’s The 14th Annual Young Comedians Special in 1991 followed by an appearance on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. Carson was so impressed that Carey made a return appearance just two months later. He was given his own stand-up comedy special on Showtime in 1994. The special, Drew Carey: Human Cartoon earned him a CableACE Award for Best Writing. That same year, he co-starred with John Caponera on the NBC sitcom, The Good Life.
In 1995, he starred in his own sitcom, The Drew Carey Show which enjoyed a hugely successful nine-season run on ABC. Three years later, he hosted and produced the comedy improv sketch show, Whose Line Is It Anyway? which ran for eight seasons on ABC giving Carey the distinction of having two hit television series run simultaneously. He went on to host CBS’s prime time game show, Power of 10 in 2007 when just a few months later, he was named the new host of CBS’s long-running daytime game show, The Price Is Right succeeding longtime host, Bob Barker. Carey has also released an autobiography entitled Dirty Jokes and Beer: Stories of the Unrefined which spent three months on The New York Times Best Seller list.
